NOTICE OF 30-DAY REVIEW PERIOD
OF AN AGRICULTURAL DISTRICT
PURSUANT TO THE EIGHT YEAR
REVIEW OF AN AGRICULTURAL DISTRICT
OCTOBER 1st-OCTOBER 31st
PLEASE TAKE NOTE that Agricultural District #3 (Towns of Berkshire, Richford and the Town and Village of Newark Valley) within the County of Tioga was established on July 1st, 1977 pursuant to Article 25-AA of the Agricultural and Markets Law.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that under Section 303 (7) of the Agriculture and Markets Law, the County Legislative Body is required to review a district eight years after its creation and every eight years thereafter.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that maps showing district boundaries can be reviewed at the County Clerk’s Office, the office of the Clerk of the County Legislature, and also at the Department of Economic Development & Planning and the Cooperative Extension Office.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a 30-day period for public comment on the district shall commence on October 1st, 2016 and continue until October 31st, 2016. During this time any municipality or landowner within the district may propose modifications to the district, including removal of land from the district or the addition of farmlands not currently in the district. Written letters with proposals for modifications to the district must be submitted to the Clerk of the County Legislature within the specified 30-day period for public comment.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that proposals for modifications to district boundaries will be reviewed and acted upon by the Tioga County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board and their recommendations will be forwarded to the Tioga County Legislature. A public hearing will be held on any proposed modifications and recommendations prior to final action by the County Legislature.
