Mark Rust Family Show – July 19th at Trout Ponds

June 24th, 2014

Mark Rust, a multi-talented singer & musician from Woodstock, NY, will perform a show for families at Trout Ponds Park on Saturday July 19th at 6pm. If rain, the show will take place under the pavilion.

Mark’s show for families “America’s Musical Traditions,” is a fun collection of songs on a variety of instruments including guitar, banjo, fiddle, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, and spoons. The audience is involved in some fun way on every tune. The show will be entertaining and educational for all ages.

In addition, Mark will hand out spoons and teach everyone how to hold & play the spoons. Anyone can do it! Special tricks & techniques taught to those who can already play. Then everyone will play along to some fun fiddle tunes, ending with a great group spoons solo.

Mark will also teach & lead families in a couple traditional American country dances for all ages that require no experience. These dances, such as the “Virginia Reel” and “Patty Cake Polka” are fun & easy to learn.

Mark starred in the Broadway Musical Hit Pump Boys & Dinettes, has appeared in People Magazine performing on stage with Pete Seeger and Peter, Paul & Mary, and has been a featured guest on the Phil Donahue Show. He has released several recordings including “Home Fires” featuring Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul & Mary) and Jay Ungar (PBS Civil War series), “Legacy” with songs of family & growing up, and his most recent CD  “Live at the Ithaca Festival.” Mark has been nominated for a Campus Entertainer of the Year Award in Family & Children Programs by the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA).

Welcome to the Village of Newark Valley!

We hope you find what you are searching for in this electronic view of our rural unique Village. Our one thousand fifty residents offer a sincere welcome to our friends and to those who are not familiar with the areas' rolling hills, vistas and other scenic attributes of New York's Southern Tier.

We are creating these digital pages of information so our citizens may seek information such as, Village Codes, Municipal Meeting days/dates and time; ask questions of your Municipal leaders and Staff via the e-mail format or just tell us "What is on your mind". Information must be easy to retrieve and we believe this user friendly format will be useful to everyone.

Our five members Board of Trustees welcome your insight and participation with the opportunities and obstacles in operating this community in the most fiscally responsible manner. We wish to improve infrastructure, tax base and attractions in our Village. With your comments and help - that will happen.
