Municipal Building in Newark Valley to Undergo Renovation

March 14th, 2014

http://www.clipsyndicate.com/video/play/4986853

“The municipal building in Newark Valley will soon undergo a renovation project.

The facility houses the village’s government, post office and a variety of non-profit organizations including Berkshire’s emergency squad, the Newark Valley Historical Society and the boy scouts. It was built in the late 1800’s and the outside of the building has been deteriorating.
The entire project will cost close to 400-thousand dollars. Recently, Newark Valley was able to secure 195-thousand dollars from the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Office through the Regional Economic Development Council. It’s also matching that same amount. Mayor Jim Tornatore says the rehab will help with the community’s efforts of enhancing the village.

Jim Tornatore says, “I certainly recognize and value historic knowledge and I think that in itself will bring some of that back too. We’re doing a lot of things in the village. We hope to continue to do a lot of things in the village within the tax means and cost means for our residents.”

Some work will also be done on the inside of the building, including restoring the main meeting room so it has a more historical look.”
