FREE PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS
The Newark Valley area is fortunate to have two preschool programs offered at no cost to families. Both programs are staffed by qualified teachers, assistant teachers and aids. They use the same curriculum, screenings, and progress checklists.
The Head Start program is federally funded to serve children ages 3-4 years of age from families who are income eligible. It has comprehensive services for children and families.
There are two types of program options:
The Home- Based program, offered to three year olds, provides weekly in-home visits by a teacher and semi-monthly classroom time on Fridays.
The Center-Based program provides Monday through Thursday classes for a full school day. The four year olds may ride the district buses to and from class.
The Universal Pre-Kindergarten program is state funded and available to district resident children who will be four by December 1, 2007. It is a half day program that follows the public school calendar.
The morning class is 9:00 to 11:30 AM. The afternoon class is 1:00 t0 3:30 PM. Children who are four may ride the district buses at 9:00 and 3:30 but families are responsible for the mid-day transportation.
