COVID-19 Update

April 7th, 2020

“Communications like this are meant to reduce further exposure by encouraging individuals who may have come in contact with the infected individual to act in the community’s best interest, get tested, and self-quarantine even if they are not exhibiting symptoms,” stated Lisa McCafferty, Public Health Director.

“We are working closely with Family Dollar’s management to ensure the safety of all employees and patrons. It is important that essential businesses are able to continue to serve our community.” Family Dollar has been directed, under the recommendations of their Corporate Office, to close for 14 days. “We appreciate the steps Family Dollar has taken to date, and are implementing moving forward to ensure the health and safety of their employees and patrons,” stated Lisa McCafferty, Public Health Director.

If you are currently experiencing symptoms, develop symptoms, or have questions, please contact Tioga County Public Health at 607-687-8623. As this situation evolves, check tiogacountyny.com or Tioga County Public Health’s Facebook page for updates.

Trout Ponds Park – Status Update

April 2nd, 2020

Message to our Residents: As of this current moment the Trout Ponds Park is still currently open, but this might have to change in the future.

We know you are starting to go a little stir crazy, we know the kids are probably getting restless, and looking at the same walls of your house all day long is getting down right frustrating. We get it! Getting out and getting some fresh air, going for a walk at the park, going for a bike ride, all these things are great ways to help get through this trying time we find ourselves in.

BUT, We all must follow the new rules that we ALL have been given. Social distancing is a must to keep us all safe and hopefully get us all back to our normal daily lives sooner rather than later.

There is absolutely no public social gathering of any kind in inside or outside spaces state wide at this time. This ban does include our small little rural village of Newark Valley.

If we want the Trout Ponds Park to stay open we all must follow these guide lines otherwise the park will unfortunately have to be closed for the foreseeable future.

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay strong, we will get through this together.

Note to Residents

March 21st, 2020

The Village of Newark Valley would like to assure our residents that we are taking the current situation we all find ourselves in very seriously. We plan to continue to abide by any and all executive orders that are issued by our Governor while still maintaining Village services and availability as best as we can under those orders.

If you require assistance from the Village Office staff please contact us via email, vofnv@stny.rr.com or call 607-642-8686 and leave a message and we will do our best to make arrangements and assist you as best as we always have.

Maintenance of your water system continues and will always continue without interruption.

Garbage collection will take place on Monday as usual. We ask that residents please bear with us and be patient with our DPW staff as collection may take longer than usual due to increased amounts of solid waste to be collected.

In closing we ask that our residents continue to be the warm, kind and caring people that we know you to be. Look out for each other, check in on one another, look after the elderly in your lives, engage with your children that are home. Follow the safety directives and continue with social distancing and only going out if you really need to. This time is very trying for many and leave many with unforeseen futures, we have no certainty as to how long this will last but we will, in the end persevere.

To our residents and local business that have been deemed essential and are working the front lines of providing essential services to our community, we thank you, we thank you for going above and beyond and we thank you for putting your community ahead of yourselves.

  • Message from the Mayor

Welcome to the Village of Newark Valley!

We hope you find what you are searching for in this electronic view of our rural unique Village. Our one thousand fifty residents offer a sincere welcome to our friends and to those who are not familiar with the areas' rolling hills, vistas and other scenic attributes of New York's Southern Tier.

We are creating these digital pages of information so our citizens may seek information such as, Village Codes, Municipal Meeting days/dates and time; ask questions of your Municipal leaders and Staff via the e-mail format or just tell us "What is on your mind". Information must be easy to retrieve and we believe this user friendly format will be useful to everyone.

Our five members Board of Trustees welcome your insight and participation with the opportunities and obstacles in operating this community in the most fiscally responsible manner. We wish to improve infrastructure, tax base and attractions in our Village. With your comments and help - that will happen.

    MayorBest Regards
    James P. Tornatore
