Dear Valued Resident:
August 4th, 2015Dear Valued Resident:
This letter is concerning the garbage cans for the Monday morning pick up. We are asking that you keep employees in mind by not filling your garbage cans with over 50 pounds (per OSHA standards) of garbage. There are over 400 cans; over 2 tons of garbage, picked by hand each week. There are options that you can take to prevent the overweight issue. If you have more garbage than two cans over 50 pound, you can; 1. Sign up for an additional service giving you two additional cans at the curb each week, or 2. You may purchase additional tags at the village office for $3.50 each, which will allow you to set out one more can or bags to make up to that amount.
There are also cans out there that are made for a truck to lift that do not have handles to lift from. Some tops are hard to work with, as they do not come off, causing them to slam down, or pinching hands while dumping.
We are asking that you replace these cans with ones that are requested by our village codes. By doing this, we could possibly prevent a comp claim, that could become very costly to all residents.
From our village code:
APPROVED CONTAINER – Includes any cylindrical. light-gauge steel, plastic, reinforced paper or galvanized receptacle closed at one end and open at the other, furnished with a top or lid, with two handles and of not more than 32 gallons’ capacity and not weighting more than 50 pounds when full.
We appreciate your assistance in helping us keep safety first, and abiding by our code.
Best Regards,
Scot D. Coombs
