Granite Shop – located on corner of Marble Street and Maple Avenue in the Village of Newark Valley

Erected in 1870’s by James and Robert Donley for a marble shop.  Closed as a marble shop in 1894.  Later used for a time by William Moore for a wagon shop.  In Early 1900’s purchased by G.S. Saddlemire who sold farm implements.  Later purchased by Bert Bliss and made into an apartment house.  Then it was sold to John George and at the present owned by the Veruto family.

Opened in 1906 – closed in 1962.  At times it employed 35 to 65 people. By 1915, it was pasteurizing and bottling 20 tons of milk daily from Owego, Newark Valley, Berkshire and Richford.  This picture was taken between 1910 and 1920.
